Ruth Mead

Education Director

Ruth Mead came to Phinizy as a volunteer in 2000 and was quickly hired as an environmental educator. She received her Bachelor of Science in Forestry from North Carolina State University, worked in forest management for 10 years, and took several years of field ornithology at Pensacola Junior College. She has been instrumental in developing the current education and life-long learning programs at Phinizy Swamp.  Ruth has been a Georgia Adopt-A-Stream (AAS) trainer since 2004 and is currently on the GA AAS Advisory Board. She is a Georgia Master Naturalist Coordinator and facilitates Phinizy’s annual Georgia Master Naturalist Certification course. In addition, Ruth is a curriculum facilitator for Project WET, WOW! The Wonders of Wetlands, Healthy Water Healthy People and The Urban Watershed.  She also has curriculum training in Georgia’s Native Waters, Native Seasons: Georgia’s Flora & Fauna, Flying WILD, Project WILD & Project WILD Aquatic, Project Learning Tree, WET in the City, and Conserve Water.
